It being the start to the New Year and all, like everyone else I find myself reflecting on the past year as I work on my plan of attack for 2019.
One of my goals is to work on being content, on shutting out the negative voices and focusing on all the good. Or, as Warren Zevon so perfectly said, “try to enjoy every sandwich.” Back in September, I came close.
It was a mild, early fall Saturday when my wife and I took a drive out to Franklin Lakes for a light hike. At some point on the trail, we walked right to the water’s edge so we could stop and take it all in. I looked out and saw all of nature’s beauty and it was starting to happen. Thinking about all of the things I was thankful for instead zeroing in on all the negative, I was on the verge of total enlightenment.
And then this white trash family stomped right on by blasting Ed Sheeran from a speaker like hell’s generic version of Radio Raheem and I was right back to where I started.
